Who we are

Storytelling for Leaders is the workshop and resource project of Colin Rowsell and Jo Fitzgerald. Man on Fire Ltd is the organisation responsible for customer and subscriber information. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to Man on Fire Ltd in connection with Storytelling for Leaders.

This policy covers personal information we collect through storytelling4leaders.com, enquiries, resource downloads and our mailing list. We are responsible for how this information is handled under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020.

For privacy matters, contact Man on Fire Ltd at hello [at] storytelling4leaders [dot] com, for the attention of Jo and Colin.

Information we collect and why

  • Enquiries: your name, email address, optional organisation and what you choose to tell us in your message. We use these details to answer you, discuss workshops or resources, and keep track of our conversation. The website form uses EmailJS to deliver your message and send an automatic reply.
  • Resource downloads: when you request a guide through Payhip, it collects details such as your email address and the resource requested. We receive download and contact information to provide the resource and help with any problems.
  • Email updates: we use contact details, mailing-list records and recorded preferences to manage resources, workshop news and updates through Moosend. The section below explains how we approach marketing permissions and your choices.
  • Website requests: hosting, security and content providers may process technical information such as your IP address, browser, requested page and request time to deliver and protect the website.

You choose whether to provide information. The enquiry form needs your name and email address so we can respond; organisation and message are optional. Without an email address we cannot reply by email or deliver an emailed resource. You can browse this website without sending an enquiry or subscribing.

Please share only what is needed for your enquiry. Avoid including confidential client information, sensitive personal stories or other people's personal details unless you have a clear reason and their permission.

If an organiser or colleague gives us your contact details for a workshop or introduction, we use them for that purpose. We will tell you where we obtained them and why, unless you already know or an exception under the Privacy Act applies.

Email updates are your choice

We use Payhip customer information and mailing-list records for resource delivery and relevant follow-up, taking account of the permissions and preferences recorded when information was collected. Any marketing use needs to be consistent with those permissions, preferences and applicable requirements. We keep enquiry replies and resource-delivery messages separate from marketing.

You can opt out of marketing at any time using the unsubscribe link in an update, or by emailing us. We may retain a record of your unsubscribe preference so we can respect it.

Services that help us run things

We share information as needed with the services used to deliver the website, handle enquiries and provide resources:

  • Cloudflare hosts and protects the website.
  • EmailJS and our email providers process enquiry messages and replies.
  • Payhip hosts the resource download pages and delivers downloads.
  • Moosend manages mailing-list records and email updates. Its email tools can record delivery, opens and link clicks, depending on the settings used.

Information is available to Jo and Colin as needed to deal with your request and run Storytelling for Leaders. We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with your permission or where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

Some providers process or store information outside New Zealand. We remain responsible for information handled on our behalf and take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected. Where sharing information overseas is a disclosure under the Privacy Act, we must have an appropriate basis for that disclosure.

Fonts, videos and cookies

The website loads fonts from Google Fonts and the contact-form script from jsDelivr. Video thumbnails load from YouTube. Your browser connects to these providers to fetch that content, which can disclose technical information such as your IP address, browser details and referring site.

A YouTube player loads only when you choose to play a video. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player at youtube-nocookie.com. This does not prevent every collection of information by Google or YouTube, particularly when you interact with a video.

Third-party services, including video and download pages, may use cookies or similar browser storage under their own policies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking them may affect videos, forms or downloads. See Google's privacy policy, jsDelivr's privacy policy and the provider policies linked above.

When you follow a link to another website, that website's privacy practices apply to information it collects.

Keeping information safe and no longer than needed

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access or disclosure. No internet or email service can guarantee complete security.

We keep information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, including enquiries, agreed services, subscription preferences and any legal obligations. When it is no longer needed, we delete it or remove identifying details. If you want us to remove information, contact us and we will explain what we can delete and anything we need to retain.

If a privacy breach causes, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify the Privacy Commissioner and affected people as required by law.

Access, corrections and concerns

You can ask whether we hold personal information about you, request a copy and ask us to correct it. We may need to verify your identity before providing information. If we decline a requested correction, you can ask us to attach a statement of the correction you sought.

We make a decision on access and correction requests as soon as reasonably practicable, generally within 20 working days, and provide information without undue delay. If the law allows an extension, we will explain why and tell you when to expect a response.

For a request or concern, email hello [at] storytelling4leaders [dot] com and mark it "Privacy request" for Jo and Colin.

If you are unhappy with our response, you can contact the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we want to use information for a new purpose, we will give any notice or obtain any permission required by law.
